1. What is ESN?

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a non-profit organization that supports international students, especially those in the Erasmus program. It offers cultural activities, social events, and practical assistance to help students integrate into their host countries and foster intercultural understanding.

2. What is our aim?

Our aim is to support exchange students at our university by helping them adapt to our country, city, and campus, and by enhancing their social integration and promoting intercultural exchange.

3. How can I be a member?

Visit our Welcome Day desk or follow our social media accounts to apply at the start of each semester.

4. What conditions are required to apply?

Only current students of Izmir University of Economics are eligible to apply.

5.Should I be able to speak English?

Yes, you need to have an intermediate level of proficiency in English.

6. How does the application process work?

Applications are received via our website.  After evaluating your applications and motivation letters carefully, we hold an informative "What is ESN?" presentation for the candidates who pass the first step. Then, each applicant attends an interview as the final step. When you pass the interviews you become a member of ESN!

7. What do you look for in the Motivation Letter?

We ask you to write maximum of 5 sentences explaining your motivation to help others, past experiences (exchange programs, voluteering projects etc.) and dedication. We also check your proficiency in English.

8. Is the interview in English? What kind of questions will I encounter in the interview?

Yes, the interview will be in English. We will ask you some questions to learn about you, your motivation, your knowledge of ESN from our presentation, how you would like to contribute to ESN, your aims within the network, and your problem-solving skills.

9. Can prep students apply to become a member?

Yes, prep students can apply to become a member.

10. What are the responsibilities members should take?

Members are expected to attend events and meetings regularly, join committees, and take on responsibilities. Additionally, members can apply to become a Buddy.

11. What is the Buddy Program?

In the Buddy program an ESNer is matched with an exchange student to help with their adaptation to the city and the university. Being a Buddy enables you to engage in cultural exchange, networking and creating life-long connections and memories.

12. Should I have a specific talent to be able to join committees?

You don’t need specific talents beyond an openness to learn and grow. However, the soft skills from your major can give you opportunities to apply what you've learned in a related committee, preparing you for professional life.
